How a 7am reformer class turned into a sock company

The question that started Toezy was asked in a parking lot before a 7am class: why is it so hard to find a grip sock that is actually beautiful?
It was not a rhetorical complaint. Between us we had a drawer of socks that gripped fine and looked like medical supplies, and a few that looked lovely and slid across the carriage like ice.
So we started from the sole. First the grip pattern, then the knit, then the silhouette, then the details that make you want to put them on: a ruffle cuff, an embroidered cherry, a ribbon you can tie three ways.
We are a family business and we are all women, which means every sample gets worn to a real class before it becomes a product. If it slips, it does not ship. If it is not cute, it does not ship either.
Eight pieces in, that is still the whole standard.
